A Way Out – McHenry County
A Way Out – McHenry County offers substance use assessment 8:00 a.m. -11:00 p.m. to anyone in McHenry County that wishes to seek recovery. Appropriate inpatient or outpatient referral and placement are determined by assessment and based on availability. If you are unable to pay for treatment due to lack of insurance or financial resources, you will not be turned away from participation in the program. A Way Out – McHenry County works with providers that are able to accept a number of different insurance plans and accommodate those without insurance.
Drug and alcohol overdose is a leading cause of death in Illinois and has greatly impacted McHenry County. To help reduce the number of fatal and nonfatal overdoses in McHenry County and alleviate the many individual and societal harms caused by substance use disorders, the McHenry County Substance Abuse Coalition, McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office AND New Directions Addiction Recover Center in cooperation with local police agencies, Northwestern Medicine Woodstock Hospital and the McHenry County Mental Health Board, are actively taking a step toward assisting individuals who request help with confronting and addressing their disorder by connecting users to treatment providers.
Participation is simple:
1. Call the A Way Out hotline anytime 8am-11pm 365 days a year: 815-347-0385
2. If you would like to enter the A Way Out program outside of these hours, contact your local police department for assistance.
3. If necessary, the police will provide transportation from their location to Northwestern Medicine Woodstock Hospital for an assessment of your treatment needs.
4. The assessment of your treatment needs will include a history of your use as well as current medical, social and emotional issues which may impact your recovery. Appropriate inpatient or outpatient referral and placement are determined by assessment and based on availability.

The navigator provides the following services:
If appropriate placement is not available at the time of assessment the navigator will work with you for community support until placement is secured.
Assist with transitions from different levels of treatment being provided. For example, if you are placed in a detox center and need to be moved to an inpatient treatment program.
Connect you to community-based recovery support.
If you choose not to follow-through on recommended treatment after your assessment the navigator will continue to work with you to develop safety plans and when you are ready placement for treatment.
